Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Biller ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please don't use the App.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age (or 16 in the European Economic Area) to use Biller. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement.

3. What Biller Is

Biller is an iOS app for splitting bills with groups. You create a group (a trip, a household, a dinner), add expenses with who paid and how the cost splits, and the App keeps a running balance of who owes whom. Biller supports several split methods (equally, by exact amounts, by percentages, by shares, and by adjustments), receipt photo attachments, categories, and CSV or PDF exports. An AI explainer can turn a confusing split into a short plain-English explanation. Your groups, expenses, settlements, contacts, and receipt photos are stored in Firebase.

4. Biller Is Not a Payment Service

Biller is a record-keeping tool. It is not a payment service, not a financial institution, and not a money transmitter.No money ever moves through Biller. We do not hold, send, or receive funds on anyone's behalf, on the free tier or with a paid subscription.

When you mark a debt as "settled" in the App, you are only recording a ledger entry. The actual money is something you and the other people exchange yourselves, outside of Biller, by whatever means you choose (cash, Venmo, bank transfer, and so on). Biller does not verify that any payment actually happened. The balances and settlement records in the App are a convenience for keeping track, not a financial guarantee, and they are only as accurate as the expenses and settlements the group enters.

5. Your Account

You sign in with email + password or with Sign in with Apple. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Security.

6. AI-Generated Explanations

The "Explain this for me" feature uses a large language model (currently OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini), run behind a Firebase Cloud Function we host, to describe a split in plain English. The output is non-deterministic and is provided on a best-effort basis. It may contain mistakes or phrasing you disagree with.

The explanation is a convenience, not a source of truth. The actual numbers are the split math the App computes, which you can always view directly ("view the math"). If the explanation and the math ever appear to disagree, trust the math and email us so we can look into it. Do not rely on an AI explanation for any decision where the exact amount matters without checking the underlying figures.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the expenses and settlements you enter, and for resolving any disputes about money with the other members of your groups directly. Biller is not a party to those arrangements.

8. Subscriptions, Free Tier & Trial

Biller is free to use with limits. Without a subscription you can keep up to 3 active groups, split equally or by exact amounts, attach 1 receipt photo per expense, and use 3 AI explanations per calendar month. Members per group and the number of expenses are unlimited on the free tier.

Biller Pro unlocks unlimited active groups, all split methods, unlimited AI explanations, up to 10 receipt photos per expense, custom categories, dark theme, CSV and PDF export, and priority email support. It is sold in three auto-renewing tiers through the Apple App Store:

All three tiers unlock exactly the same Pro features; only the billing cadence and price differ. Billing is handled by Apple under their standard subscription terms: payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, the subscription auto-renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time from your Apple ID settings. Refunds are handled by Apple, not by Biller, per their policy.

Prices and tier structure may change. Material changes will be announced in-app and reflected here before they take effect for new billing periods, and any price increase requiring your consent will be handled per Apple's rules.

9. Intellectual Property

The App's code, design, copy, and brand are the property of the developer and are protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal use.

The expense data, receipt photos, and notes you enter remain yours. By sharing them inside a group you allow the other members of that group to see them, which is how a shared ledger works.

10. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services:

Your use of these services is governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for outages, data loss, or behavior of these third parties beyond our control.

11. Privacy

Your use of Biller is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect, the fact that no money moves through the App, and what is sent to OpenAI when you ask for an explanation.

12. Data Deletion

You can delete your entire account from Settings → Security → "Delete account." After a 24-hour grace period (for accident recovery), a Cloud Function removes your authentication record, your user document, your contacts, your notifications, and your AI records. Expenses and settlements inside shared groups are kept, because they belong to the other members too, and your name is replaced with "Former member" in those groups. 13. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We don't guarantee that Biller will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the AI explainer will always be available or correct. Balances, splits, and explanations are records and computations based on the data your group enters; they are not financial advice and not a guarantee that any debt is owed or has been paid.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Biller and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to disputes over money between members, decisions made based on a balance or an AI explanation, loss of data, or service interruptions. Because Biller moves no money, we are not responsible for any payment you make or fail to make to another person outside the App.

15. Modifications

We may modify these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

16. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you breach these Terms or abuse the underlying services. You can terminate at any time by deleting your account.
