Bill not adding up? Let's sort it.

Biller is built by one person. The answers below cover most things, and if none of them fit, write to me directly and you'll get a real reply.

Quick help

The fastest path through Biller's main features. If you can't find what you need here, scroll on to the FAQ or just email.

Getting started

Open Biller, sign in with Apple or email, then create a group for your trip, household, or dinner. Add people from your contacts or by scanning their profile QR code, and start logging expenses.

Splitting an expense

Add an expense, set who paid, then pick how it splits: equally or by exact amounts on the free tier, or by percentages, shares, or adjustments with Pro. Biller does the arithmetic.

AI explainer

Tap "Explain this for me" on any expense, or "why?" on a balance, and Biller writes two or three plain-English sentences about who owes what and why. Free users get 3 a month, Pro is unlimited.

Settling up

Biller never moves money. Pay each other back however you normally do (cash, Venmo, bank transfer), then tap to mark the debt settled so the ledger zeroes out.

Receipt photos

Attach a photo to any expense for a record of the number. One photo per expense on the free tier, up to ten with Pro. Photos are visible to the group's members.

Biller Pro

Unlimited groups, all split methods, unlimited AI explanations, more receipt photos, custom categories, dark theme, and CSV/PDF export. $1.99 weekly, $4.99 monthly, or $29.99 yearly.

Privacy

Groups are visible only to their members; everything else is scoped to your account. Expense details go to OpenAI only when you ask for an explanation, and never to train any model.

Delete your data

Open Settings, go to Security, and tap Delete account. After a 24-hour grace period your personal data is removed. Shared group expenses stay, attributed to "Former member."

Frequently asked questions

Does Biller move money or process payments?+

No. This is the single most important thing about Biller. No money ever moves through the app. Biller is a record-keeping tool: it tracks who owes whom. When you mark a debt as settled, you're only updating the ledger. The actual money you exchange yourselves, outside the app, by cash, Venmo, bank transfer, or however you already settle up. Biller never holds, sends, or receives funds, and it never asks for your bank or card details.

Why does my friend owe me a different amount than I think?+

Almost always it's the split method. An expense split equally divides evenly, but one split by amounts, percentages, shares, or adjustments can land differently, for example if someone didn't have a drink. Open the expense and tap "view the math" to see the exact per-person breakdown. If it still looks wrong, whoever entered the expense can edit it, and the balances recompute.

How does the AI explainer work? Does it always get the math right?+

When you tap "Explain this for me," Biller sends the expense (description, amount, who paid, the participants, and the split), the group name, and your first name to OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini model through a secure Cloud Function, and gets back a short plain-English explanation. The math itself is computed by Biller, not the AI; the explainer just describes it. The wording is best-effort and can occasionally be off, so there's always a "view the math" link to check the real numbers. If the explanation and the math ever disagree, trust the math.

What if I add an expense that's wrong?+

Edit or delete it. Open the expense from the group's Expenses tab and change the amount, who paid, the participants, or the split. The group's balances recompute automatically once the change syncs. There's no need to delete and re-create from scratch.

What does the free tier include?+

Up to 3 active groups, unlimited members and expenses in each, splitting equally or by exact amounts, 1 receipt photo per expense, and 3 AI explanations per calendar month. The 9 default categories and the light theme are included.

What does Biller Pro cost, and what does it unlock?+

Three options in one subscription group: $1.99 per week, $4.99 per month, or $29.99 per year. The monthly and yearly tiers include a 7-day free trial; the weekly tier does not. All three unlock the same Pro features: unlimited active groups, all split methods (percentages, shares, adjustments), unlimited AI explanations, up to 10 receipt photos per expense, custom categories, dark theme, CSV and PDF export, and priority email support. Prices may vary slightly by country, since Apple sets local pricing.

How do I cancel my subscription?+

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, choose Subscriptions, then Biller. From there you can switch tiers or cancel. Apple handles billing, so refund requests also go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the current period ends.

Is my data shared with anyone?+

Your groups and expenses are stored in Firebase and are visible only to the members of each group. Expense details and your first name go to OpenAI only at the moment you ask for an explanation, and OpenAI doesn't use API submissions to train its models. RevenueCat sees your subscription status, and PostHog gets anonymous usage events (never the content of your expenses), which you can switch off in Settings. We don't run ads, don't sell your data, and don't track you across other apps.

Do I have to give Biller access to my contacts?+

No, it's optional. If you allow contacts access, Biller can read your phone contacts so you can pick people quickly when building a group. Those contacts stay on your device and aren't uploaded unless you explicitly save one into your in-app contacts list. You can also add people manually or by scanning their profile QR code.

How do I delete my account?+

Open Settings inside the app, go to Security, tap Delete account, and confirm. There's a 24-hour grace period in case you change your mind. After that, a Cloud Function removes your auth record, user document, contacts, notifications, and AI records. Expenses and settlements you shared in a group stay (they belong to the other members too) and your name is replaced with "Former member."

Can I use Biller on Android or the web?+

Not yet. Biller is iPhone only at launch and requires iOS 17 or later. An Android version is planned for a later phase.

I'm having a billing or App Store issue.+

Apple handles every subscription transaction. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com. If your subscription state looks wrong (showing as expired right after you paid, for example), email support@moetalaat.com with your receipt and we'll sort it out.
