Getting started
Open Kiddy, sign in with Apple, Google, or email, pick whether you want boys / girls / all, and you'll land on Discover. Tap any name to open its full chart.
Browse & filter
Sort by popular, rising, rare, or A–Z. Filter by origin, religion, length, era, starting letter, or trajectory. The result list updates instantly.
Favorites
Tap the heart on any name to save it to your private Favorites. Favorites are visible only to you and sync across your devices when you sign in.
Shared lists
Tap Lists, then the plus to create a new list. Invite a partner with their invite code or email, assign them as editor or viewer, and vote thumbs up / thumbs down on every name together.
Saved searches
Tweak the filters until they show what you want, then save the search with a name. It'll be there in the You tab whenever you want to come back.
Notifications
Optional. Toggle weekly featured names and partner-activity pings from Settings → Notifications. The invite-received notification is always on so partners can reach you.
Kiddy+
Unlimited shared lists, unlimited members per list, and unlimited saved searches for $4.99 monthly or $29.99 yearly (with a 7-day free trial). Manage or cancel anytime from iOS Settings.
Delete your data
Delete any list, item, or saved search from inside the app. To wipe everything, open Settings, scroll to Danger zone, and tap Delete my account. Lists, votes, invites, and your auth record are removed.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the name data come from?+
From the U.S. Social Security Administration's annual baby-name release (public domain) and Wikidata for cultural origin, etymology, and meaning. The dataset ships bundled with the app, so browsing works without a network connection.
Is the data only U.S. births?+
Yes. Counts and trajectories reflect U.S. SSA records. A name that's vintage in the U.S. may be very common somewhere else in the world. Origin and etymology are global, but the popularity numbers are U.S.-only.
How current is the data?+
The SSA releases the previous year's data each spring. We bundle the most recent release available when each version of the app ships. Open the About page in Settings to see what year the current data goes up to.
How do shared lists work?+
The owner creates the list and invites partners by invite code or email. Each member is either an editor (can add and remove names and vote) or a viewer (vote only). All votes and additions sync in real time. The owner can change roles, remove members, or delete the list.
How do invites work?+
Every account has a short invite code (visible in the You tab). Share it with your partner so they can find you when inviting. You can also invite by email; if the email matches an existing account, the invite shows up in their Invitations screen on next launch.
Can the data update between releases?+
The bundled dataset only changes when the app updates. If you spot a name that looks wrong or a meaning that's clearly off, email support@moetalaat.com with the name and what's wrong and the dataset gets patched in the next release.
What does the free tier include?+
Every name, every chart, every filter, every sort. Plus 3 shared lists, 2 members per list (you and one partner), and 5 saved searches. Favorites are unlimited on free.
What does Kiddy+ cost?+
$4.99 per month or $29.99 per year with a 7-day free trial. Prices may vary slightly by country (Apple sets local pricing). It removes the list, member, and saved-search limits. That's all it changes; the core browse experience is free.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?+
On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, choose Subscriptions, then Kiddy. From there you can switch tiers, cancel, or restart. Apple handles billing, so refund requests also go through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).
Why do I see the same name twice when I tap Surprise?+
Surprise pulls weighted from your filters. If your filter set is small, you'll see repeats. Widen the filter or add a few origins to get a more varied stream.
Can I use Kiddy on Android or the web?+
Not in v1. Kiddy is iPhone only and requires iOS 17 or later. An Android version may come later if there's enough demand.
How do I delete my account?+
Open Settings inside the app, scroll to Danger zone, tap Delete my account, and confirm by typing DELETE MY ACCOUNT. A Cloud Function then permanently removes every list you own (and the items in them), removes you from every shared list, deletes every invite tied to your account, deletes every saved search, deletes your user document, and deletes your Firebase Auth record. The action is irreversible.
What happens to a shared list when I delete my account?+
Lists you own are deleted along with their items, since you are the owner. Lists you joined as a member stay alive for the other members, but you're removed from them and your votes go with you.
I'm having a billing or App Store issue.+
Apple handles every subscription transaction. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com. For subscription state issues (showing as expired when you just paid, etc.) email support@moetalaat.com with your receipt and we'll sort it.
